Using data on nearly 2 million respondents from the United States and Europe, we show partial correlation between union membership employee job satisfaction is positive statistically significant. This runs counter to findings in seminal work of Freeman Borjas 1970s. For States, association switched negative 2000s. Cohorts with effects over time come dominate those effects. The apparent cohorts born before 1960s but turns for 1990s. Analyses Europe since 2000s confirm worker well-being elsewhere. Panel estimates Kingdom also find a relation satisfaction. A other aspects including life satisfaction, happiness trust cross-sectional Europe. Union members are less likely be stressed, worried, depressed, sad or lonely. have important implications our understanding trade unionism.
